Dream Interpretation of Flying: Freedom & Ambition

Ibn Sirin says that flying in a dream indicates travel and moving from one place to another or from one state to another. Whoever sees himself flying from a known place to an unknown place will move from a praiseworthy state to an unfavorable state, and vice versa. Flying may also indicate the fulfillment of wishes and the achievement of goals, especially if the flight is easy and smooth.

Ibn Sirin adds that flying can be a warning (Nadhir) of vanity and arrogance, especially if the dreamer sees himself as higher than others or flies away from people. In this case, the dreamer must be humble and remember that God is the one who gave him this blessing. Flying may also indicate dispersion and instability, especially if the dreamer is flying aimlessly or constantly changing course.

If the flying is downwards or to an unknown place, it may indicate degradation and a bad state. Flying may also indicate getting rid of worries and problems, and freedom from restrictions.

Al-Nabulsi believes that flying without wings indicates excessive ambition and the desire to achieve the impossible. As for flying with wings, it indicates the ability to achieve goals and overcome difficulties, especially if the wings are strong and durable. Flying may also indicate imminent travel or moving to a better place.

If a person sees himself flying over the sea, this indicates that he will attain authority or a prestigious position in society. But if he sees himself flying over the mountains, this indicates that he will overcome his enemies and triumph over them.

It was narrated from Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) that flying in a dream is interpreted in several ways: it may indicate travel, the fulfillment of wishes, getting rid of worries, or rising in status and prestige. It may also indicate arrogance and vanity, or dispersion and instability.
